  5. Ava says:

what is the theme of this book?

    • Neal says:

Sounds like you have an assignment to discuss the theme of the book. Read the book and give it some thought — You’ll figure it out!

  6. Nicole Baird says:

Another great read! As an English teacher, you are my “go to” author when I recommend books. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Dickens is my favorite, but you are definitely a strong #2! 🙂

  7. Devin Parker says:

What is the location that this book is based on. I only ask because mrs. Pohl gives Jason money to take Paula to Braum’s, and braum’s is an Oklahoma based company that only offers restaurants to bordering states. Just curious I’m from Oklahoma.

    • Neal says:

Hi, Devin — I visited Oklahoma many times, and LOVE Braums. Since The Dark Side of Nowhere takes place somewhere in middle-America, when it came to having ice cream, I immediately thought of Braums. I had assumed it was all throughout the midwest, not just Oklahoma.

  8. Jim says:

    You make me sad, sir.

  9. Arlo Alabaster says:

i loved this book so much when i was younger i stole it from the school library. and no, it has not been given back. and yes, i did just re-read it and i still have fines due for it.

    • Neal says:

Ha! It’s a great compliment to an author to know that you loved a book enough to steal it from the library. Librarians have mixed feelings about it though! On the one hand they WANT you to love a book that much. On the other, now they have to replace it 🙂

  10. Erica says:

I read this book when I was 13 and loved it. 18 years and many books later, it’s still one of my favorites.
