First presented in 1967, the Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the field of children’s and young adult literature. The awards are chosen by an independent panel of three judges who are annually appointed by the Editor of the Horn Book. What makes these awards really stand out is the deceptively simple criterion: the judges are instructed to reward “excellence,” no more, no less. “Not as easy as it might sound!” says Roger Sutton, editor of The Horn Book.
